dc.description.abstract | Background and purpose: Childhood obesity is considered by the World Health Organization as the epidemic of the 21st century with a great impact on the health of the population. The objective of this study is to know the lifestyle of the preadolescent population of Castellón, to know the prevalence of overweight/obesity in it and to determine which factors influence the most on the appearance of them. Subjects and methods: We carried out a cross-sectional descriptive-analytical observational study. 12-14 year-old children from the department of Castellón participated and weight, height and abdominal perimeter were measured on them; questionnaires were passed to assess eating habits, sports activity, leisure and sleep. The association of obesity/overweight with the demographic and lifestyle variables was sought. Results: 15.60% of children were overweight (more in women) and 7.30% suffers from obesity (more in men). Not having breakfast every day shows to be the 7.84% of changes in nutritional status, translated as an increase in BMI (p-value < 0.001). Conclusions: The prevalence of overweight in the sample is higher than the expected in women, while obesity is higher than the expected in men. A higher adherence to the Mediterranean diet than the expected was found and the consumption of highly caloric sugars was not very prevalent. Sports activities take up a lot of free time; however, the time devoted to sedentary activities is even greater. As the preadolescent population grows they become more attached to electronic devices and social networks and reduce their nighttime rest time. | ca_CA |
| ca_CA |
