dc.description.abstract | Background: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an inflammatory bowel disease with high prevalence and chronic character. The treatment options are multiple and with different risks and benefits. Since it affects the quality of life, patients must make decisions to manage the disease. The process of shared decision-making (SDM) provides the patient with the tools to optimize their decisions. Aim: To explore and describe the factors that influence SDM in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, focusing on ulcerative colitis and describe how they modify the course of the disease. Method: We did a systematic review using two databases (Pubmed and Cochrane library) between 2014 and 2019. Results: Patients want to be better informed and actively participation in SDM. This improves health outcomes in terms of personal satisfaction and increased quality of life as they feel their disease undercontrol. Other factors are difficult to measure since each study puts a different scenario and measures different characteristics so the results are different and each study reaches different conclusions. Conclusions: SDM regarding the treatment of UC is influenced by two main factors, the quantity and quality of the information. Patients want to be better informed and be involved in making treatment decisions (or not treatment). Therefore, the greater the quantity and quality of the information, the patients feel more safety, more control of their disease and satisfaction when choosing a treatment, thus improving health outcomes in terms of quality of life. | ca_CA |
| ca_CA |
