Gender stereotypes from the point of view of two transexuals

Abstract

In today's society gender stereotypes have predominated, due to the patriarchal structure and the sex-gender system, which establishes an inequality between men and women, and therefore, determines the conception of what it is to be a man or a woman, and that society assigns attitudes, behaviors and norms based on biological sex. Gender stereotypes are acquired throughout the evolutionary process of the individual through social learning and the process of socialization. The members of society who identify themselves as transsexuals also learn these stereotypes, however, it is not unusual for them to adopt behaviors and attitudes that are contrary to biological sex, that is, according to the desired sex. The objective focuses on knowing different gender stereotypes that are established in society and are related to the public and private sphere, emotions and feelings, beauty and intelligence, games and toys, colors and clothes, the educational and work environment, sexuality and sports, in a male transsexual subject and in a female transsexual subject, using a qualitative methodology with ethnographic approach, where a semi-structured interview is used to collect the information and then analyze the speech of each subject to treat the data.

En la sociedad actual han predominado los estereotipos de género, debido a la estructura patriarcal y al sistema sexo-género, el cual establece una desigualdad entre hombres y mujeres, y por tanto, determina la concepción de lo que es ser hombre o mujer, ya que la sociedad asigna unas actitudes, unos comportamientos y unas normas en función del sexo biológico. Los estereotipos de género se van adquiriendo a lo largo de todo el proceso evolutivo del individuo a través del aprendizaje social y del proceso de socialización. Los miembros de la sociedad que se identifican como transexuales también aprenden estos estereotipos, sin embargo, no es inusual que adopten conductas y actitudes contrarias al sexo biológico, es decir, acordes al sexo deseado. El objetivo se centra en conocer diferentes estereotipos de género que están instaurados en la sociedad y guardan relación con el ámbito público y privado, las emociones y los sentimientos, la belleza y la inteligencia, los juegos y los juguetes, los colores y la ropa, el ámbito educativo y laboral, la sexualidad y el ámbito deportivo, en un sujeto transexual hombre y en un sujeto transexual mujer, empleando una metodología cualitativa con enfoque etnográfico, donde se utiliza una entrevista semi-estructurada para recoger la información y posteriormente, analizar el discurso de cada sujeto para tratar los datos.
