New forms of occupation and psychosocial factor: GIG economy.

Abstract

The period of change that is taking place in the world of work and employment has led us to go deeper into the new jobs that are emerging, more specifically in the gig economy, known as the economy of small orders (De Stefano,2016). Thus, in the present literature review, the gig economy has been characterized from the point of view of the psychology of work and organizations and specifically, we have known how it affects the psychosocial well-being of workers. To this end, a series of searches (gig economy, gig economy effects on workers, digital platform work and sharing economy) have been carried out in the ProQuest Social Science Journal, PubMed and Google Academic databases using two criteria: the publication time (2013-2019) and the language (english and spanish). On the basis of the results obtained, on the one hand, it has been observed that there are certain psicosocial risks that workers of the gig economy are exposed and, on the other hand, that these workers renounce certain characteristics offered by classical work since the workers of the gig economy are considered as self-employed workers. Finally, for a better knowledge on the subject, it has been suggested in the first place that more research be carried out on self-employed workers in the field of work psychology and organisations, on the other hand, that more studies be carried out on the gig economy in Spain as these are scarce and finally, that it be studied whether the gender variable influences in any way the psychosocial factors of workers.
