Abordaje del burnout en cuidados intensivos

Abstract

El Burnout cada vez tiene más relevancia entre los profesionales de la salud y se considera un problema de salud pública, ya que su afección trae consigo efectos negativos tanto para el trabajador como para la organización en la que trabaja. El objetivo de este trabajo es determinar la prevalencia del Síndrome de Burnout y cada una de sus dimensiones en el personal de la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos de adultos del Hospital General Universitario de Castellón, que por las características de su trabajo es susceptible de sufrir el “síndrome de estar quemado”. Se trata de un estudio descriptivo transversal, para determinar la prevalencia y características de los profesionales (edad, sexo, tiempo trabajado en UCI, etc.) En los resultados del estudio, se determinó que el 13,4% de los profesionales presenta el Síndrome de Burnout frente a un 86,6% que no lo presenta. Y se estableció una asociación estadísticamente significativa entre niveles bajos de grado de satisfacción personal y aparición de Síndrome de Burnout, así como, niveles bajos de reconocimiento del trabajo por parte de los pacientes y aparición de Síndrome de Burnout. Los resultados obtenidos en este estudio nos alertan sobre el estado actual del Burnout en la UCI de adultos del Hospital general Universitario de Castellón y nos orientan en la necesidad de implantar medidas para mejorar la situación. Estas medidas forman parte del Plan de Mejora de la Humanización en las Unidades Asistenciales de pacientes Críticos (MHUAC) propuesto por la Consejería de Sanidad de la Comunidad Valenciana.

In the results of the study, it was determined that 13.4% of the professionals presented the Burnout Syndrome and 86.6% did not present it. And a statistically significant association was established between low levels of personal satisfaction and the appearance of Burnout Syndrome, as well as low levels of recognition of work by patients and the appearance of Burnout Syndrome. The results obtained in this study warn us about the current status of Burnout in the adult ICU of the General University Hospital of Castellón and guide us on the need to implement measures to improve the situation. These measures are part of the Plan for the Improvement of Humanization in the Care Units of Critical Patients (MHUAC) proposed by the Regional Ministry of Health of the Valencian Community.
