In this paper, we look into the effects of fiscal policies on the macroeconomic activity. With the aim of analysing different fiscal policies, we developed an agent-based model which allows us to investigate the evolving dynamics of the economy as a complex, adaptive and interactive system. Particularly, we introduce different fiscal policies and study the effects of those policies in the aggregate output, the structure of the firms and banks which populate the economy and their bankruptcy percentage. These policies have dissimilar consequences on the economic outcome of the simulated economy
depending on which agents are given the tax collected. More precisely, we have implemented two types of fiscal policies. In the first study, we hand out the tax collected to firms using two different methods. Firstly, firms which receive government grant are smaller firms, while in the other one, firms which receive subsidies are the larger ones. In the second one, we redistribute the tax to banks according to their bad debt. We use the model to analyse the dissimilar consequences of the different policies over the
macroeconomic performance of the economy. Our results suggest that handing out the tax to firms allow GDP to grow substantially while using those resources to banks reduces to the minimum the failure of credit institutions. [-]
