This article is an overview that aims to describe and justify the
methods used to improve the writing skills of the ESL secondary
education learners of Elian’s British School. In the paper, these
methods are divided into two separate sections. The first one,
called instruction include: instructions on reading, writing,
planning and paragraph structuring (PEEL paragraph). The
second part is named Assessment and Feedback and contains:
self, peer and teacher correction and feedback. In the first part of
each section, the relevance of these methods is briefly justified
with literature from different authors and afterwards, the manner
that a particular tool was used at the school is described. Data
for the second part of the research were obtained from the
written observations and interviews with the English teachers,
during the four months period of the internship at Elian’s
School. The paper presents a large variety of instruments that
can make a small contribution to the secondary ESL students all
over the world, although the information explained in this paper
might be incomplete and not flawlessly described due to the
short amount of time available for the observation of the lessons,
so further research and observation for a more accurate
description on this methods is suggested. [-]
