dc.description.abstract | Women’s victimisation and involvement in terrorism and terrorist organisations has become more apparent in recent years, with the media and policy makers portraying it as a recent phenomena when in fact history shows cases from its inception. With a lack of attention on the matter generating an increase in women as victims and as perpetrators, the connection between women, gender and terrorism can no longer be ignored. Despite a shift from reactionary to preventative tactics regarding violent extremism and terrorism, there is a grave need for a more comprehensive multistakeholder approach that integrates gender dimensions. This thesis aims to consolidate existing knowledge on the subject and translates them into a tangible project proposal to set an example for relevant actors to consider when developing effective and sustainable counterterrorism efforts. | ca_CA |
