| ca_CA |
dc.description.abstract | Introduction: Breastfeeding, (LM) is the best way to feed newly born, since it has benefits both for themselves and for the mother and the environment. In midtwentieth century, there was a huge withdrawal of this habit, due to the fact that artificial milk was introduced. Currently, thanks to promotion campaigns of several institutions, this habit has been recovered. Those institutions recommend that LM, will be exclusive up to 6 months and completed to 2 years old, or when mother and baby want them. Closely linked to breastfeeding we found the kangaroo method, a practise that is based on the time that mothers decided to spend with their baby, since it is important the undeniable benefits that the first hours of life they spend together produce. Objectives: To make an integrative review to inform about the kangaroo mother care benefits in relation to breastfeeding. Material and Method: The descriptors selected in MeSH and DeSC, are searched in the databases: Cochrane Library, PubMed, Lilcas, Scielo, Dialnet and Cuiden. The applied filters are language, publication date and keywords in title and abstract. As inclusion criteria documents are accepted that relate breastfeeding and skin-to-skin contact, in addition to premature infants. Results: Twenty articles were included in the review, following the selection processes. Conclusion: The Kangaroo Method has benefits that were related with breastfeeding. Those were of difficult measurement since in lot of occasions exist personal and heterogeneous factors that take part. More studies are needed to whether there is indeed an association between both and a more active promotion of breastfeeding not only by institutions, but also by health professionals. As well as, to log the practice about the optimum start and duration time to achieve the best results. Key words: Breastfeeding, Exclusive breastfeeding, Skin-to-skin contact, Kangaroo method and premature infants. | ca_CA |
