The aim of this paper is to analyse how Jane Austen depicts a fictional society in
Pride and Prejudice, in order to explore her position towards this topic, as well as to
understand the reasons for her criticism about her society. This article will focus on the
study of the different traits that distinguish the fictional society of the novel in an attempt
to understand the context of Austen’s work. Pride and Prejudice, generally known as a
romance novel, also contains additional themes such as society. With the purpose of
explaining the different social traits that can be observed in the novel, scenes, quotations
and facts extracted from the narrative will be examined and discussed in order to
understand the importance of the social issue within the context of the novel. [-]
