| ca_CA |
dc.description.abstract | Anxiety is a phisiological response to stress, in this context, a surgery event. Preoperative anxiety is responsible of several intra and postopertative difficulties that increases the morbimortality. Anesthesiologists use various methods to decrease anxiety levels, explaining the surgical and anesthesic procedure to the patient is one of them. Objectives. The aims of the present study were to determine if the information provided at the preanesthetic visit was useful to decrease anxiety levels in patients undergoing elective surgery. In addition, variables such as gender, age, type of surgery and anesthesia, and level of academical studies were studied in realtion to the preoperative anxiety decrease. Design. This is an epidemiological, observational, unicentric and prospective study that include 90 patients. Methods. The data collected included: gender, age, type of surgery and anesthesia, level of academical studies; and anxiety level (short-STAI Scale), arterial pressure and cardiac frecuence before and after the preanesthetic visit. Results were analysed using the McNemar test, T-Student and logistic regression analysis. Relevance to clinical practice. Decreasing anxiety level prevent perioperative complications and provides psicological and sistemic advantages. Few studies have inquired in how useful the preanesthetic visit is in terms of anxiety. | ca_CA |
