In the past few years Emotional Intelligence (EI) has been of great interest in the field of psychological research. The aim of the present study is to analyze the relation between team/project leaders´ emotional intelligence with the wellness of their employees in several hospitals of the Comunidad Valenciana. The sample used within the research was composed of 134 participants in total. Beeing 105 of them men and 29 of them women. These employees were organized into 7 different groups and led by 8 supervisors. We applied the TMMS-24 (Trait Meta Mood Scale) test as a tool to evaluate the Emotional Intelligence. As for the wellness we used the MBI-GS (Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey) test. The application of Pearson´s r test proved both a statistically significant correlation and negative correlation between EI and burnout. On the one hand, these results suggest that EI competence could have an influence in the wellness. On the other hand, if we compare the averages -using the Student´s t test- it turns out that there is no significant relation between employees´ wellness and the fact that their leaders had proved to have a high EI. Thus providing a result contrary to what we expected.
Nevertheless, these results demonstrate the relevance of implementing training courses within the field of healthcare and within any other labour field. [-]
