Supermarkets in Spain : a profitability analysis

Abstract

This works analyses the profitability of the main supermarket companies that operate in Spain. That is, Mercadona, Dia, Eroski, Lidl Spain and Consum. It has been made by an examination of their financial statements and an analysis of the industry focused on the competitive determinants of the grocery retailing industry. It was feasible to gather data for some of these determinants, what has contributed to a better comprehension of the industry. All that has allowed to explain the profitability within the sector and possible reasons to the events regarding it were included.
