The knowledge of 21st-century emerging literature in English is relatively almost absent considering the lack of exposure to contemporary canonical pieces in literature in English within the academic research at undergraduate level. Therefore, as a consequence of the need to explore deeply coexistent literature, Don DeLillo’s work is taken as starting point to delve into early 21st century literature.
The aim of this paper is the study and analysis in terms of content of three representative 9/11 novels –Falling Man, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close and The Submission. Firstly, I expect to decipher the relationship between the artistic representations i.e. photos, images, memorials, and the novels themselves, as reactions of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Secondly, this paper interprets 9/11 novels setting and the significance of space. Finally, the last part of my work will be devoted to describe the treatment of the association of Islam to terrorism in the novels. [-]
