The differences that occur when entering Public Health initiatives have resulted in the
figure of the community-based health care agent, one of the most important ones in the
world of intercultural and community mediation nowadays. In this paper we have
addressed the description of this role (settling the differences it has with the interpreter
and the intercultural mediator), as well as the theoretical contributions that have been
made to the present day. Furthermore, we have investigated the structure and the
operation of a project that trains health care agents, the Proyecto RIU (Comunitat
Valenciana) and, through surveys filled by those agents that have been trained, we have
undertaken the analysis of the efficiency in this project when training the candidates.
Later, we have set our impressions by means of possible improvements that the
Proyecto RIU could follow in its next editions [-]
