Unemployment in Europe

Abstract

Throughout the following study we will see different important aspects regarding unemployment. Firstly we will define the concept of unemployment as well as its main types. Secondly we will comment the main agents that cause a country to have a more or less elevated unemployment rate. After that we will comment a model based on the job market. Next we will delve deeper into the project, carrying out an evolutionary study of the unemployment rate in Europe from 1965 to the present, where we will be able to see several peak economic years as well as several years of economic decline, which systematically affects employment. We will also observe the impact of the present world economic crisis on the rate of unemployment; first of all we will carry out a comparison taking into account workers´ages and secondly taking into account gender. Finally we will comment the policies and reforms which European governments should put into practice in order to tackle unemployment.
