Mad Men (Weiner, 2007).

American television fiction, and mainly sitcoms, have dramatically
increased in popularity in the last years. As a consequence, cultural references
are a continuous challenge for audiovisual translators. This paper aims to analyse
the cultural references in the dubbing and subtitling of the television series Mad
Men (Weiner, 2007). After lying out our working definition of cultural reference,
we suggest an analysis based on an analytical data sheet in order to study cultureme
translation into Spanish of the first three episodes of the first season of
Mad Men. A total of 58 tokens were obtained, and the results were classified
into four categories (natural environment, cultural heritage, social culture, and linguistic culture). The results show a certain tendency to foreignization both in
dubbing and subtitling. [-]
