La Investigación sobre la Historia Forestal portuguesa en los siglos XIX y XX: orientaciones y lagunas

Abstract

La investigación sobre la Historia Forestal es relativamente reciente en Portugal, permaneciendo aún muchas áreas de análisis con una idea "mítica", que es incompatible con los conocimientos globalmente adquiridos sobre la Europa mediterránea. Por ello, nuestra exposición se inicia con una panorámica sobre la actualidad forestal. En segundo lugar, se analizan las variaciones forestales y la redistribución espacial de los árboles acontecidas a lo largo del síglo pasado. En tercer lugar, se presenta esquemáticamente el despertar de las cíencias forestales y de la silvicultura en el siglo XIX en Portugal. Por último, la puesta en práctica de las leyes del régimen forestal (1901-1903) abre un nuevo periodo que culmina, en el "Estado Novo" (1933-1974) con la concreción de una política estatal ya esbozada hacía más de un siglo.

Forest history research is very resent in Portugal and most areas of research continue to uphold "mythical" ideas about forests that are incompatible with Mediterranean Europe global knowledge. This paper starts with an overview of the current forest situation. The analysis of forest changes and tree spatial distribution in the past century constitute the second part of the article. This is followed by a brief look at forestry science over the last 150 years. We end by considering the forestry legislation (1901-1903) that marked a new era and special emphasis is placed on the forestation made by Estado Novo (1933-1974) in local community land.
