First of all, we should emphasize the fact that academic logic is attached in the present
research. In other words, it is comprised in our proposal of Industrial Relations and
Human Resources Final Project, according to the precepts established by the
Universitat Jaume I for the academic year 2012/2013.
Having said that and to get to the point, our interest has focused on three main aspects
that, even today, are difficult to dissociate, such as: inequality, labour market and
women. Therefore, in addition to the presumed complexity involved in any kind of
analysis on this issue, the study is entitled Inequality and the labor market: an
approach to the current situation of women in the Spanish State.
From the beginning, we have been aware of the huge ambition that involves tackling an
issue of this magnitude. Since the fact of carrying out a thorough and convincing
analysis about the issue exceeds the main goals of this research from any point of
view. Perhaps that is the reason why we decided to carry out an essentially
approximate exposure.
Throughout the following pages, there is a whole body of literature that examines every
aspect listed in depth. Our main goal has therefore been focused on the state of the
issue. So, first and foremost, we emphasize the bibliometric nature of this work.
However, the rigor and academic approach have been the vectors whereby the
process has been guided.
Carrying out this study, we have sought to explain an evidence, perhaps tacit: despite
all the social advances that have occurred in the recent decades in Western
industrialized societies – as ours- there is still inequality against women, to a greater or
lesser degree, in many of the areas that invade our daily lives. Unquestionably, in the
field of labor market. For example, among other parameters, we have intended to know
which are the indicators that prove it. And what mechanisms currently exist to try to
prevent its extension through time.
To achieve all that has been presented previously and its clear explanation, we have
organized the essay in several detailed unavoidable pillars, which are included in the
same index. Particularly, by way of introduction, we have done a synthesis about the
research. First, it deals with the gender issue, then we have focused on the inequality
between men and women in the Spanish labor market, as well as its indicators, next we have focused on our analysis on conciliation as a prerequisite for the achievement
of equal work and finally, we have drawn up conclusions as a result of our reflections.
Furthermore, and finally, apart from the bibliography used, we have considered
significant to attach annexes concerning charts and tables used in the study. [-]
