Actualmente no

Parkinson’s disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder in the world which
is mainly characterized by a series of motor symptoms. Currently, there is no cure and several
treatments are being investigated to face it. The practice of physical exercise shows good
outcomes to health and prevents the risk to developing diseases in the future. Recent studies
show similar results for Parkinson's disease. In this paper we have reviewed the effects of
physical exercise on the typical motor symptoms of the disease. Although the available data
are not conclusive, the researches show changes in the nigroestriatal pathway caused by
neuroplastic mechanisms that improve motor symptoms. On one hand, the neuroprotective effects are due to the release of neurotrophins to promote survival of dopaminergic neurons in
the substantia nigra pars compacta. Moreover, the compensation mechanisms produce a series
of neural changes at the structural level and at neurotransmission level which offset the
dopaminergic deficit. The motor symptoms that are improved by physical exercise practice are:
gait, bradykinesia, balance and postural abnormalities. An improvement of tremor at rest also
occurs, but only has been demonstrated in humans. The researches show that the motor
improvement occurs after a single training session and this improvement is maintained even
when subjects stop exercising after various weeks. In conclusion, it is advisable to do exercise
with drug treatment adjusted to the needs of the patient to get the best possible results. [-]
