| ca_CA |
dc.description.abstract | This study consists in the revision of the published studies from the year 2002 to June 2014, where effects of the anxiety in the attentional processes/mechanisms are researched. Our main objective is, therefore, to know how the level of trait or state anxiety affects the functioning of the attention networks: alerting, orienting and executive control. For that, we will focus on the ANT task (Attention Network Test, Fan et al., 2002) and its variants. We are particularly interested in the analysis of the three types of attention or attention networks, nature of stimuli, questionnaires and scales, characteristics of patients (age, sex, etc.), explanatory theories about it, etc. 4 In the revision of the existing information, we can broadly conclude that anxiety is an affective mechanism, whose high levels, — either like a trait, or like a state—, impair the performance. Overall, visual attention focus on harmful stimuli that act like distracters, therefore the attention to the rest of relevant stimuli of the task is careless. This happens because anxiety is an adaptive mechanism to the environment that focuses on the aversive stimuli so as to survive to them. If we focus on the ANT task, we can conclude that negative affective stimuli prioritize the functioning of the alerting network, which in turn activates more quickly the orienting network. Nevertheless, this causes a slowing-down in the executive control network (Geva, Zivan, Warsha, Olchik, 2013). This executive control network is the responsible of the control of the attention detachment and the decrease of the performance. | ca_CA |
