El tratamiento informativo de la violencia de género en el periodismo de sucesos: ABC y La Vanguardia (2004-2013)

Abstract

La violencia de género ocupa en la sección de sucesos un espacio mediático cada vez más amplio donde se manifiestan explícitamente la selección y la jerarquización periodísticas. Por ello, este estudio se centra en el análisis de las noticias sobre violencia de machista para examinar qué papel interpretan los actores principales -víctima y agresor-, a qué tipo de fuentes informativas se acude para elaborar estas piezas periodísticas, cuál es su estructura habitual y por qué se recurre a ella, qué tratamiento –sensacionalista o de rigor- reciben estas noticias y, por último, en qué medida influyen los elementos gráficos que la acompañan y su encuadre temático. La metodología se basa en la aplicación del análisis de contenido. La muestra se centra en dos importantes periódicos españoles con líneas editoriales diferenciadas (ABC y La Vanguardia) y toma como intervalo de tiempo los años donde se aprobaron las normativas oficiales sobre violencia de género e igualdad (2004 y 2007) y también el mismo periodo de tres años más hasta llegar a la actualidad (2010 y 2013). En total, se han sometido a estudio 51 piezas informativas. Los resultados demuestran una tendencia periodística común, especialmente, en el tratamiento que recibe el agresor y en la estructura que se sigue para despertar el interés del lector.

In the accident and crime reports gender violence occupies an increasingly broader media space where journalistic selection and hierarchization are explicitly stated. That is why essay focuses on the analysis of the news about sexist violence to examine what role the main protagonists – victim and aggressor- play, what kind of news sources we turn to so as to develop these journalistic pieces, what their habitual structure is and why it is used, what treatment –rigor or tabloid- there pieces of news receive and, finally, to what extent the accompanying graphic elements and their thematic framework have an influence. 3 The methodology is based on the application of content analysis. The sample focuses on two important Spanish newspapers with different editorial lines (ABC and La Vanguardia) and covers the years when official regulations on gender violence and equality (2004 and 2007) were passed and also the same three year span more recently (2010 and 2013). In total, 51 informative pieces have undergone study. The results show a common journalistic trend, especially in the treatment given to the aggressor and in the structure which is followed to arouse the reader’s interest.
