The present study examines the longitudinal relationships between past academic success and
future academic success, testing the hypothesized underlying mechanisms according to the
previous literature, these are, resilience and self-efficacy. The sample is a total of 773 students
from a Spanish university which completed the self-report questionnaire about the
psychological variables studied, resilience and self-efficacy. In addition, they voluntary allowed
access to their GPA before and after questionnaires administration. Structural Equation
Modeling supported the proposed research model. The found results show, first of all, that past
academic success acts directly on future academic success (p <.01). Also, past academic success
has a positive influence on academic resilience (p <.05), strengthening students perception of
individual resilience. Thus, resilience has a positive effect on academic self-efficacy (p <.01)
than when it gets higher increases the likelihood of future academic success (p <.01). The
results based on the link between resilience and self-efficacy proposed in the Social Cognitive Theory by Bandura (1997) are discussed. According to the results, the theoretical and practical
implications are presented, suggesting a guide to improve teaching at that university. Finally,
limitations and future research proposals from our study are presented [-]

nuestro estudio. [-]
