article explores communication
policies applied to cinema. To this
end, it undertakes a comparative
analysis of the main measures implemented in this field in Spain and
France.
The intention is to know the basic
traits of the measures applied with a
view to obtaining a comparative
outlook of how cinema is protected
and promoted. The study is divided
into three parts.
Firstly, it examines the basic structure
making up all the sectors by comparing film production, distribution and
exhibition between France and Spain.
Secondly, it reviews all the promotion
measures applied in the respective
industries in order to identify their
main shortcomings in relation to the
dominant US industry. Thirdly, it
obtains a general view of the commercial tendencies developed in French
and Spanish cinema to confront the
US hegemony.
The results suggest that the main
differences between the Spanish and
French sectors do not lie so much in
the films they make, but in the
different ways they apply their
communication policies. [-]
