In 1965 Adler, Konheim and McAndrew defined the topological entropy of a continuous self-map of a compact space. In 1971 Bowen extended this notion to uniformly continuous self-maps of (not necessarily compact) metric spaces and this approach was pushed further to uniform spaces and topological groups by many authors, giving rise to various versions of the topological entropy function. In 1981 Peters proposed a completely different (algebraic) entropy function for continuous automorphisms of non-compact LCA groups. The aim of this paper is to discuss some of these notions and their properties, trying to describe the relations among the various entropies and to correct some errors appearing in the literature. Wavelet-Based Entropy Measures to Characterize Two-Dimensional Fractional Brownian Fields
Nicolis, Orietta; Mateu, Jorge; Contreras-Reyes, Javier MDPI (2020-02-07)The aim of this work was to extend the results of Perez et al. (Physica A (2006), 365 (2), 282–288) to the two-dimensional (2D) fractional Brownian field. In particular, we defined Shannon entropy using the wavelet spectrum ... -
Dimension and entropy in compact topological groups
Dikranjan, Dikran; Sanchis López, Manuel Elsevier (2019-03)We study the topological entropy h(f) of continuous endomorphisms f of compact-like groups. More specifically, we consider the e-spectrum E top (K) for a compact-like group K (namely, the set of all values h(f) , when f ... -
Entropy–enthalpy compensation at the single protein level: pH sensing in the bacterial channel OmpF
Alcaraz, Antonio; Queralt-Martín, María; Verdiá Báguena, Carmen; Aguilella, Vicente; Mafe, Salvador The Royal Society of Chemistry (2014)The pH sensing mechanism of the OmpF channel operates via ligand modification: increasing acidity induces the replacement of cations with protons in critical binding sites decreasing the channel conductance. Aside from the ...
