La cultura de la imagen y el culto al cuerpo son una realidad en el siglo XXI, alcanzando por igual a hombres y mujeres. Por su influencia y repercusión social, la publicidad de determinados productos y los modelos allí representados, pueden llegar a influir en el origen y desarrollo de patologías relacionadas con la percepción y valoración somática, sobre todo en adolescentes, ya que son el principal grupo de riesgo. Este artículo es una reflexión sobre la influencia que tienen los modelos transmitidos a través de los medios de comunicación, y potenciados desde el discurso publicitario, que llega, en algunos casos, a afectar a la propia percepción corporal y a derivar en una obsesión por conseguir un cuerpo que se adapte a unos estrictos, y no siempre saludables, cánones de belleza.
