This documentary is born from the objective of showing an alternative perspective to the dominant
discourses surrounding the Cannes International Film Festival. In this case, we have chosen to tell
the story of young filmmakers who travel from all over the world to the festival, driven by their passion for cinema, in order to see their idols in person.
To explain the reason for this theme, we must begin with the foundations of the new contemporary
documentary. It seeks to dismantle reality (composed of infinite dimensions) by rethinking the veracity of the facts. In this way, the new documentary rejects the immediate certainty of the facts and
dismantles official history.
On this basis, we could say that the official discourse of the Cannes Film Festival is that some of the
best films of the year are presented and that hundreds of the world’s biggest stars walk its red carpet
to see them. From here, the media create several stories, but always according to this discourse: reviews about the films, compilation of the best dressed, the most exclusive events of the blue coast...
With the intention of dismantling this reality, the idea of telling the story of the young filmmakers who
travel to the festival arises. The official discourse on the part of the organization is that thousands
of young people will have the opportunity to access the Festival thanks to the accreditations it gives
out, such as the “3 Jours a Cannes” pass or the one for film professionals. But if one approaches
this reality from behind, and rethinks the veracity of the facts, one discovers a completely different
story. This reality could also be explained as thousands of young people traveling to Cannes during
the festival, with a pass that will never allow them to have access to the big premieres, that will force
them to queue for hours under the sun, to beg for tickets in front of the cinemas, that will have to
pay accommodation up to 6 times more than its usual value or spend up to 25 € for a hamburger.
In short, this documentary solves the big question that young people who love cinema ask themselves: what will it be like to be at the Cannes International Film Festival? To satisfy the public’s eagerness to experience this reality, this audiovisual piece goes deep into all the vicissitudes experienced
by young people who wanted to solve this doubt and dematerialize the concept of reality established
by the media. [-]
