The prevalence of emotional disorders (ED) in children, such as anxiety (6.6%) and depression
(2.7%), is a cause for concern. These disorders, among others, are highly comorbid, meaning
they can occur simultaneously in the same individual. The Unified Protocol for the
Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders in Children (UP-C) is an adaptation for children
aged 7 to 13 years based on Barlow's UP, aiming to target shared mechanisms among EDs. In
addition, this group therapy also involves the participation of parents. The aim of the present
study is to examine information from studies that have applied the UP-C in children. For this
purpose, a literature review was carried out through the PsycNet and PubMed databases,
following the methodology of the PRISMA statement. A total of 5 studies were included. All
investigations applied the UP-C to a sample of children, with different research objectives. Thus,
the reviewed studies showed a variety of results, however, they all agree that the UP-C has an
impact on anxiety and depression levels, effects on emotional regulation and cognitive
reappraisal, and more common characteristics in ET. In addition, there were also high levels of
satisfaction and motivation, both from children and parents, regarding the interactive and
dynamic way in which the technique was applied. It should be noted that the studies had several
limitations, such as the size of the samples and the design employed, which restricts the
generalizability of the data. On the other hand, this field is quite new; therefore, it is of interest
that further research be carried out to improve the technique and its therapeutic impact on
children. [-]
