El problema de la infraestructura y la superestructura en la antropología económica

Abstract

Las categorías de infraestructura y superestructura son, entre la tradición marxista, unas sobre las que más ríos de tinta se han escrito. Sean una simplificación, pensamientos puntuales de Marx o parte del cánon del materialismo histórico, no cabe duda que han atraído el interés de historiadores, etnógrafos, antropólogos y científicos sociales en general desde que Marx acuñase dichos conceptos en el Prólogo de la Contribución a la Crítica de la Economía Política de 1859. El propio potencial analítico de los conceptos, sumado al nacimiento del estructuralismo y la revivificación del marxismo que lo acompañó, creó el campo de cultivo para nuevas y más profundas teorizaciones sobre el alcance, la vigencia y los límites de emplear la división entre infraestructura y superestructura como herramientas análiticas de cara a las sociedades precapitalistas. Este escrito pretenderá seguir el recorrido de las controversias entre tres de los antropólogos marxistas más reconocidos del pasado siglo, como son Marshall Sahlins, Claude Meillassoux y Maurice Godelier, y exponer, en relación con su trabajo de campo, la teorización de los autores alrededor de las categorías que nos ocupan.

The categories infrastructure and superstructure are both, within the marxist tradition, two of the concepts on which more ink has been spilled. Whether they are a simplification, specific thoughts of Marx or part of the canon of historical materialism, there is no doubt that they have attracted the interest of historians, ethnographers, anthropologists and social scientists in general since Marx coined these terms in the Prologue of the Contribution to the Critique of Political Economy of 1859. The very analytical potential of the concepts, added to the birth of structuralism and the revival of marxism that accompanied it, created the breeding ground for new and more accurate theorizations about the scope, validity and limits of using the division between infrastructure and superstructure as analytical tools for pre-capitalist societies. This paper will try to follow the course of the controversies between three of the most recognized Marxist anthropologists of the last century, such as Marshall Sahlins, Claude Meillassoux and Maurice Godelier, and expose, in relation with their fieldwork, their theorization around the categories that concern us.
