Etnia e identidad en Pompeya. Una aproximación antropológica

Abstract

El estudio que se presenta a continuación trata de analizar las manifestaciones de etnicidad e identidad colectiva en Pompeya desde su fundación hasta la época imperial. Para ello hacemos un recorrido por la cultura material, las fuentes clásicas, la lengua y la religión. Basándonos en estos factores, extraemos las claves para comprender mejor los componentes culturales que operaron en la ciudad y cómo se desarrolló el hecho identitario. En esta aproximación, aplicamos los trabajos de antropólogos e investigadores que han estudiado la identidad en el mundo antiguo. Los análisis acerca de la etnicidad tanto en la antigüedad en general como en la Italia romana, aplicados a toda la historia de Pompeya, nos dan un punto de vista global sobre este asunto generalmente ignorado por la investigación.

The study presented below tries to analyze the manifestations of ethnicity and collective identity in Pompeii from its foundation to the imperial era. For this purpose we take a tour of the following elements: material culture, classical sources, language and religion. Based on these factors, we extract the keys to better understand the cultural components that operated in the city and how the fact of identity was developed. In this approach, we apply the work of anthropologists and researchers who have studied identity in the ancient world. The analyzes about ethnicity both in antiquity in general and in Roman Italy, applied to the entire history of Pompeii, give us a global point of view on this matter generally ignored by research.
