La influencia del cristianismo en el desarrollo histórico de los Derechos Humanos

Abstract

Uno de los documentos sobre derechos y libertades más relevante es sin duda la Declaración Universal de los Derechos Humanos, publicada el 10 de diciembre de 1948. A pesar de que actualmente exista una común aceptación y defensa de los mismos por la mayoría de las naciones del mundo, no siempre fue así, y a muchos les sorprendería la postura que antaño podían defender los que hoy claman por ellos. Profundamente enraizados con la cuestión del derechos naturales o positivo, los Derechos Humanos son fruto del esfuerzo de los ciudadanos de a pie por derrumbar el orden absolutista e ir adquiriendo nuevos derechos que les permitieran vivir con plenitud. Este esfuerzo junto al desarrollo de corrientes como la deontología kantiana o el pluralismo ético de John Stuart Mill harán posible la institucionalización y defensa de estos derechos y libertades también desde el ámbito legal. Un preámbulo y 30 artículos son el resultado de siglos de pequeños progresos y de la capacidad de acuerdo de unos pocos miembros del Comité de Redacción como Peng Chun Chang o Charles Malik.

One of the most relevant documents on rights and freedoms is undoubtedly the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, published on December 10, 1948. Despite the fact that there is currently a common acceptance and defense of them by most of the nations of the world, that has not always been the case, and many would be surprised by the position that those who today cry out for them could defend in the past. Deeply rooted in the question of natural or positive rights, Human Rights are the result of the effort of ordinary citizens to overthrow the absolutist order and gradually acquire new rights that allow them to live fully. This effort together with the development of currents such as Kantian deontology or the ethical pluralism of John Stuart Mill will make possible the institutionalization and defense of these rights and freedoms also from the legal sphere. A preamble and 30 articles are the result of centuries of little progress and the agreement of a few members of the Drafting Committee such as Peng Chun Chang or Charles Malik.
