| ca_CA |
dc.description.abstract | The relationship between sport and stress has been a very well researched area, not being so when it comes to the field of dance. Dance is a human cultural phenomenom that brings together the characteristics of physical activity and artistic expression. The objective of this work is the study of the relationship between dance, perceived stress and coping strategies, among other health variables. In particular, possible differences between different levels of dedication to dance (non-dance/amateur dance/professional dance) and their relationship with these variables were studied in a sample of 151 participants. Analyzing the data extracted from the scales quantitatively, the main results of our study conclude that there are significant differences between the groups for both the stress variable and some coping factors. Amateur dancers have lower levels of perceived stress, compared to those who do not dance, those who do sports and professional dancers, the latter being the ones who show higher levels of stress. Differences in coping styles are also found, being that “Search for Social Support” and “Open Emotional Expression” are the most used by those participants who dance (amateur and professional). We conclude that there is a link between dance and stress, and that the level of dedication to the discipline mediates this relationship, therefore it is important that dance intervention programs are evaluated in the future. | ca_CA |
