Análisis de los referentes culturales del doblaje inglés/español en Avatar

Abstract

Este TFG se centra enel análisis de los referentes culturales de la serie Avatar: La leyenda de Aang, concretamente en el doblaje en inglés y español de los capítulos 18, 19 y 20 de la primera temporada. La curiosidad de esta serie es que podemos ver implícita, en ambos doblajes, la cultura china, ya que forma parte de la propia serie. Primero, exponemos la metodologíaque hemos seguido para este análisis: cómo es la traducción audiovisual, más concretamente, de dibujos animados; la importancia de los referentes culturales, sobre todo los sociales y religiosos; el papel que tiene la cultura en la traducción ycómo enfrentarnos a los problemas que pueda causarnos;cómo podemos clasificar las distintas culturas existentes,y qué técnicas podemos utilizar durante el proceso de traducción.A continuación, pasamos a la fase del desarrollo principal del trabajo: veremos de quétrata la serie de Avatarpara tener un contexto por el que guiarnos; analizaremos varios ejemplos de los capítulos mencionados según la categoría en la que estén clasificados, y veremos algunas curiosidades,como la importancia de los referentes chinos enla serie, ejemplos donde no se ha podido transmitir exactamente el sentido de la LO o la proposición de una alternativa de traducción.Por último, planteamos nuestras conclusiones finales con un breve resumen y una exposición de las principales aportaciones que hemos logrado con este trabajo.

This TFG focuses on the analysis of the cultural references of the seriesAvatar: The Legend of Aang, specifically on the dubbing in English and Spanish of chapters 18, 19 and 20 of the first season. The curiosity of this seriesis that we can see implicitly, in both dubbings, the Chinese culture, since it is part of the series itself. First, we presentthe methodology we have followed for this analysis: what is audiovisual translation like, more specifically, of cartoons; the importance of cultural references, especially social and religious ones; the role of culture in translation and how to deal with the problems it can cause us; how can we classify the different existing cultures, and what techniques can we use during the translation process.Next, we move on to the main development phase of this project: we will see what the Avatarseriesis about inorder to have a context to guide us; we will analyze several examples of the mentioned chapters according to the category in which they are classified, and we will see some curiosities, such as the importance of the Chinese references in the series, examples where it has not been possible to transmit exactly the meaning of the OL or the proposal of a translation alternative.Finally, we present our final conclusions with a brief summary and an exposition of the main contributions that we have achieved withthis work.
