This document presents a research work carried out by 5 years old children from a private/
concerted centre. This work is based on a qualitative investigation from the drawings extracted to
the participants. The main purpose is to change the current perspective of the outdoor area of
schools, the playground, for an innovative one and less distant from the school reality, where they
can develop the motor, cognitive and social functions of the children themselves in the same way
that they work in the classroom with a structure and elements born from their reality and not from
the architectural specialists’ reality. The researches in these studies have allowed us to know the
contrast between the preferences of the students and the existing reality, showing a total lack of
restructuring of the educational spaces. In the results we highlight the role of the new technologies,
gender roles and symbolic play. Finally, there is a comparison with other similar research work,
which has used the same methodology but with four-year-olds from a public school. [-]
