In this paper we examine the struggles of the indigenous peoples of Mexico City against infrastructure and urban development mega-projects. We call them Rururban Insurgencies because they are more than resistance movements, and because their internal organization and their arguments overstep the dividing line that distinguishes and hierarchizes the urban and the rural. Located in the unique territoriality of a thousand-year-old city, they disrupt the processes of capital accumulation, challenge the underlying dichotomies and hierarchies of modernity, and promote visions of alternative developments in a context of crisis of civilization and global environmental deterioration.
