ICT has been a field of study during the last decades all over the world due to its importance
because of the large number of applications and performances provided in all domains. ICT has
offered a new branch of opportunities in order to improve the education system. Its correct and
efficient application could lead to a better acquisition of the foreign language, breaking up with the
traditional teaching lines and accelerating and facilitating the EFL learning process.
The aim of the present paper focuses on the integration of ICT in secondary education in
public institutions and, specifically, on how it could lead to the development and improvement of the
reading skill. The study first introduces the concepts of ICT and reading, centering most on
technologies and providing an overview of its policies in Spain, the main barriers and enables, and its
close relation when teaching reading in classroom. Then, a workable reading plan is introduced in
order to implement technologies while working on the reading skill. The possible results when
applying it in the classroom are shown, being later discussed and compared gathering diverse studies,
previously threatened, and own experience in the application of ICT in secondary school. The paper
concludes with an overview and analysis of the possible results shown when integrating ICT for
teaching reading. [-]
