Inequality suppose exceptionally complex problem that takes into account the welfare state of the whole society. There are many factors that influence the inequality. In this paper, however, we particularly focused on the impact of external transfers on the inequality in the receiving countries. To measure the inequality we used GINI index. Using panel data for European Union member countries in 1980-2015 we observed negative influence of the remittances on the income distribution. Although, when we distinguish between poor and rich countries, results proved to change slightly. Moreover, it was showed that variables related to the European Union (EU zone, Euro zone and Schengen zone) and European programs (health and employment) are also significant and affect the inequality.
