Maternal
behaviour
covers those
activities that
females perform to supply the
pups
with
protection
and
care.
It
contributes
satisfactorily in the
neural and
behavioral development
of
the offspring, and
in the
perpetuation
of
species.
The
m
otivational
system
has
a
great
involvement
in maternal
behavior
a
nd
in the creation of
emotional
closeness.
This
circuit
consists
in several brain regions which are interconntect which each
other
and some of
them are sensible to the effect of maternal hormones.
The purpose of
this
study is to
disentangle the possible
differences
in
maternal
behavior
and
in the activation of the motivational brain regions
in lactating mothers and maternal senitized
-
females (godmothers) after the exposition to pups or a neutral stimulus. To
quantify
the
level of
brain activity, we measu
red
expression of cFos, in the
motivational nuclei.
Our results did not show statistical significant differences in the maternal behaviour
between mother and godmother, neither in the levels of cFos expression in the brain regions involved in the emotional
processing. However, we found significant differences
when analysed the correlations between behaviour and expression of cFos in mothers and
in the correlations in the cFos expression between brain regions in mothers and
godmothers. [-]

La conducta maternal
abarca
aquellas
actividades que
la hembra realiza para abastecer a
las crías
de protección y cuidados
,
contribuyendo
positivamente
en el desarrollo
neuronal
y
conductual posterior de
las
crías
, así como en el mantenimiento de la especie
.
El sistema
motivacional
,
implicado
en el comportamiento maternal y en la creación
del
apego
,
está
in
hembras lactantes y
en hembras maternalmente sensibilizadas (comadres), tras la
exposición
de las hembras a
crías o
a
un estím
ulo neutro.
Para
cuantificar el nivel
de
actividad
cerebral
relacionada con la motivación
, cuantificamos la
expresión
de
la proteína
cFos.
Nuestros resultados no mostraron
diferencias
estadísticamente
significativas
madres
y en la expresi
ón de cFos entre núcleos cerebrales
en ambos tipos de hembra
