Acute gastroen
teritis is the most common form of
Salmonella
infections. It is the second cause
of acute bacterial gastroenteritis, after Campylobacter. It is really relevant in pediatric age. The
two most prevalent serotypes are
S
.
typhimurium
and
S
.
enteritidis
. The ma
in modes of
transmission is through contaminated food, and sporadic cases are most frequent tan
epidemic ones.
This study aims to describe its main epidemiological features according to the variables
person, place and time as well as estimate the risk of i
nfections (incidence) between the years
2014
-
2017 in the town of Castellón. For this, an observational descriptive epidemiology study
was carried out. All cases of positive stool culture for
Salmonella
analyzed in the hospitals of
the two Health Departamen
ts in Castellón have been included, except those in which the
patient resides outside the study
área.
A rate of 62 x 10
5

a has been found. The incidence has been higher in the Health Department
of La Plana compared to that of
Castellón. The risk of gettin
g si
ck is higher in pediatric age,
r
each
ing a peak between 0 and 4 years old.
These and other results are presented, discu
s
sed with other similar studies and finalized by
proposing future recommendations. [-]

finaliza proponiendo recomendaciones futuras. [-]
