Eutanasia y Suicidio asistido. Una revisión integradora

Abstract

Introduction: Death is an unavoidable and universal happening that has moved from being a familiar and a social event to be a situation where sometimes the patient is excluded . Technological development has achieved increasing life expectations causing the increasingly rejection of death. In this social context is where the relevancy of euthanasia and assiste d suicide inhabits Objective: Identify studies about euthanasia and assited suicide, know about their legal acceptance, determine if they considered a suitable tool to help the patient die preserving his dignity and observe if their executi on is related to the gender, age and/or desease of the patient. Method: An integrative review of the literature was carried out, selecting the key words in Descriptors in Health Sciences and in Medical Subject Headings. The PubMed, SciELO and Science Direct databases were use d and filters were applied for language, species and time. Only the articles written in Europe, North America and South America were considered. Results: A total of 7.717 documents were found, of which only 6 were se lected and studied due to their conf ormance to the selection criteria and their direct or indirect answer to the objectives established. Conclusion: Legally, euthanasia and assisted suicide are mostly unaccepted in Europe, North America and South Ame rica but they are considered a good tool t o help the patient have a dignified death . A ssisted death is mostly requested by male patients with an oncological desease between 60 and 80 years . A ssisted suicide is more extended than euthanasia and it is believed that thi s correlates with the poor a cce ptance of the assisted death in the clinical area.

Introducción: La muerte es un acontecimiento inevitable y universal que ha pasado de ser un ac to social y familiar a ser un acontecimi ento en el que al enfermo en ocasiones se le deja a l margen . El desarrollo científico ha logrado aumentar la expectativa de vida provocando que la idea de morir sea cada vez más rechazada . Es en este contexto social donde reside la relevancia de la eutanas ia y el suicidio asistido. Objetivo: Identifi car estudios sobre eutanasia y suicidio asistido , conocer el estado legal, observar si son considerados para ayudar al paciente a morir conservando su dignidad y finalmente observar si la ejecución de ambos proc es os tiene relación con el género, la edad y la enfermedad . Método: Se realizó una revisión integradora de la literatura seleccionando las palabras clave en Descriptores en Ciencias de la Salud y en Medical Subject Headings. Se utilizaron las bases de dat os PubMed , SciELO y Science Direc t y se aplicaron filtros para idioma, especie y tiempo. Se tuvieron en cuenta los artículos escritos en Europa, Norteamérica y América del Sur. Resultados: Resultaron 7.717 documentos en total . S e seleccionaron y estudiaron 6 dado que cumplían con los criterios de selección y respondían de forma directa o indirecta a los objetivos establecidos. Conclusiones : La eutanasia y el suicidio asistido legalmente son poco aceptados en Europa , Norteamérica y América del Sur pero sí so n considerado s aceptable s para ayudar al paciente a tener una muerte digna. L a muerte asistid a es más solicitada por pacientes oncológicos varones entre 60 y 80 años . E l suicidio asistido está más extendido que la eutanasia y se cree que esto guarda relaci ón con la escasa aceptación de la muerte asistida a nivel clínico.
