In the present study raises a double objective, on the one hand to examine if there is a
relationship between the contextual variables, intent to learn and learning strategies and, on the
other hand, analyze the motivational profile of students in the 1st, 2nd, 3ºy 4º of the that in the
course of mathematics at the Institute ESC Alt Maestrat. The sample is composed of 54
students, aged between 12 and 17 years, which collaborated in the investigation of a voluntary

The sample is composed of 54 students, aged between 12 and 17 years, which collaborated in
the investigation of a voluntary and anonymous way. The instruments used for the collection of
information were three autoreport Likert-type, two students in the first quarter of the course and
one/teachers of the subject. For data analysis we used the SPSS statistical program that
calculated the main statistical descriptivos (media, desviación estándar y coeficiente de Alpha
As for the scales used, according to the results obtained, we can say that they have a good
reliability and construct validity. The results obtained related to the first objective, examine the
relationship between contextual variables, intent to learn (expectations) and
learning/performance strategies used by the students, we can predict as outlined in the scenario
a significant association between the variables studied. With regard to the second objective,
analyze the motivational profile of the students, we can observe a moderate motivational profile,
with intermediate expectations in front of the subject of mathematics.
This research puts at the service of teachers the analysis of the main variables that influence
learning and offers effective tools to address any problem in their teaching activity related to
them. [-]
