The use of coloured coatings of high capacity of reflection of solar radiation
results in significant savings in the consumption of air conditioning in warm zones.
However, the use of cooling coatings of high solar reflectivity not only positively
affects the owner of the building; the urban environment [1,2] of the cities with roofs
and walls coated in refreshing colours improves the air quality, since temperature
is moderated by the refreshing coatings. They also reduce greenhouse gas
emissions and mitigate the urban "heat island" effect, with positive life cycle
analysis even in cold climates.
In this work, we look at the structural and morphological characteristics of
cooling pigments with selective photocatalytic capacity (the capacity for blocking
UV radiation to protect the polymer matrices of the paints and photocatalytic on
contaminating organic molecules resistant to the conventional oxidation in water
and other volatile contaminants VOCs and Nitrogen oxides NOx.)
The pigments studied are characterized for being inorganic in nature and for
always having high reflectivitiy in the NIR (Near Infrared, 800-2500 nm) range.
A study is carried out for a CMYK colour palette wherein black pigments are
not relevant in the cladding of buildings, since it is not recommended due to its
high absorbance capacity, although it is of interest in the asphalted environments
of cities and roads, where the increase in reflectivity affects the cooling of the
urban environment and the air in general. [-]
