This paper has analysed several psychological biases which affect adversely the investment performance of market participants. Since modern portfolio theories has been refused by numerous studies, behavioral finance has appeared to emphasise on the irrationality of investors who are influenced by their mental convictions. It has been studied the following behavioral biases: mental accounting and the disposition effect, status quo bias, representativeness bias, anchoring, herding behaviour, overconfidence and confirmation bias. Hence, it has been explored various mitigation strategies in order to overcome the negative impact on the decision-making process in financial markets. The major contribution to inhibit those subconscious barriers is the portfolio diversification and the acquisition and assumption of suitable economic information. [-]
