This paper analyzes the figure of Segunda Martínez de Robles, painter, translator and writer of the novel Las españolas náufragas o Correspondencia de dos amigas (1831). The authoress recounts in this text some facts with autobiographical references. The novel was written in epistolary style, an emerging genre in those years. In its foreword, Segunda raises her voice to justify the boldness of her novel writing by economic needs. Her case illustrates how the professionalization of the women artists in the 19th century was, and her access to the circuits. Also, how the emergent voice of women was configured at that time, delving into the self-representation of women writers in their novel. All of which is linked to the biographical information of the authoress. [-]
