The Civil Rights Movement between the 1950s and 1970s in the United
States, it was initially marked to legal ways and peaceful actions. The adoption in
1964 of the Civil Rights Act, as well as other legal measures, ended with legal
segregation. However, the discrimination was maintained in social and economic
matter, so the younger generations continued the struggle, but it was betting on the
most radical ways. The Black Power would pick up this new line of thought from
young tired of the passivity of the movement’s organizations and the abandonment
of government.
But in the whole process, what role do black women play? This project
revolves around this question and, as the Black Panther Party was the first
organization to fight against racism and sexism; for this, it will analyze the context in
which the organization emerges, the mechanisms of patriarchal control over the
black community, the relations to feminism of Second Wave or the internal evolution
of the group. [-]
