The issue of overweight in the society has become the pandemic nowadays. Addipose tissue is
an endocrine organ which can develop a chronic inflammation process due to a constan
liberation of pro-inflamatory citokines. It can cause neuroinflammation, which results in
cognitive capacity problems. There are evidences of the anti-inflammatory properties of diverse
plant hormones like: curcumin, jasmonate and acetylsalicylic acid, etc…; we want to highlight
the role that plant hormone abscisic acid (ABA) can mean to prevent a massive
neuroinflammation.
In this project, we will study the ABA benefitial effect to improve the deleterious effects of
neuroinflammation in an animal model of high-fat-diet. We will focus on septum area, because
this cerebral region helps hippocampus region and spatial memory. Our hypothesis is
neuroinflammation could affect the septum area and affect memory alteration, which are
observed in those animals. ABA is able to counteract the inflammation in all cerebral areas, also
in septum, improving the behavior of memory. To test our hypothesis, microglia cells in Wistar
rats septum fed with standard diets or HFD, with or without ABA, were quantified. The results
show high-fat-diet increase neuroinflammation in septum can be increased in HFD rats if ABA
can counteract this effect.
Neuroinflammation in septum could be hidden alterations in spatial memory, which are
observed in animals fed with high-fat-diet compared with control. [-]
