Estudio de la relación entre posición social dentro del aula y rendimiento académico en el alumnado de 4º, 5º y 6º de Educación Primaria

Abstract

Las relaciones sociales juegan un papel crucial en el desarrollo socioemocional y cognitivo de los niños, por ello el estudio de las mismas resulta fundamental. Estudios previos ya han asociado rendimiento académico y relaciones entre iguales. En este estudio hemos aplicado el Cuestionario Sociométrico de nominaciones entre iguales a una muestra de 396 alumnos (203 chicos) de 4º, 5º y 6º de Educación Primaria. Los participantes pertenecen a un total de 18 aulas, de una ratio de entre 16 y 30 alumnos de cuatro centros de la Comunidad Valenciana. Los objetivos de la investigación fueron conocer la tipología sociométrica del alumnado e identificar la relación existente entre la posición social dentro del aula y el rendimiento académico. El análisis de los datos reveló que la distribución sociométrica del alumnado concuerda con la literatura disponible, 71% medios, 12% preferidos, 15% rechazados, 2% ignorados y 0.5% controvertidos. Los datos también mostraron que a peor posición social, peor es el rendimiento académico. Este estudio muestra la necesidad de intervención en el contexto escolar para mejorar la situación social de los rechazados y facilitarles el acceso a interacciones con los iguales, de manera que puedan tener más información social y académica y puedan crecer de manera social y personal.

The social relationships play a crucial role in the socioemocional and cognitive development children, that’s why the study of the same ones turns out to be fundamental. Previous studies have already associated academic outcomes and relations between equal. In this study we have applied the “Cuestionario Sociométrico de nominaciones entre iguales” to a sample of 396 pupils (203 boys) of 4th, 5th and 6th of Primary education. The participants belong to a whole of 18 classrooms, of one ratio of between 16 and 30 pupils of four centers of the Valencian Community. The goals of the investigation were to know the typology sociométrica of the pupils and to identify the existing relation between the social position inside the classroom and the academic yield. The analysis of the information revealed that the distribution sociométrica of the pupils agrees with the available literature, 71 % average, 12 % preferred, 15 % rejected, 2 % neglected and 0.5 % controversial. The information also showed that to worse social position, the academic outcome is worse. This one studied sample the need for intervention in the school context to improve the social situation of the rejected ones and to facilitate the access to interactions to them with peers, so that they could have more social and academic information and could grow in a social and personal way.
