We will focus on the first season of The Young Pope to deliberate about the relations between contemporary seriality and religious phenomenology. For that, we will focus on the uses of the gaze using a textual analyse methodology. We will work specifically on three fields: looking to the inner- self, looking to the Other —using Levinas ethical system as a basis— and looking to God. We will demonstrate that, within Sorrentino’s textual system, these three levels work as a whole and are, in fact, an explicit proposal for avoiding an ultraconservative and injurious approach to a religión logic based on love.
