The purpose of this study is to verify if there are relations between the psychological capital and the burnout and the engagement in university students. The Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) model (Demerouti, Bakker, Nachreiner & Schaufeli, 2001) explains a positive relationship between personal resources and engagement and a negative relationship between personal resources and burnout, Resources increase motivation and protect against the deterioration of health. Personal resources, such as psychological capital, can play an adaptive role to facilitate student success, as well as having positive effects on performance, satisfaction and well-being. The results of the study carried out with a random sample of 105 university students, administering an online questionnaire, showed significant relationships between the psychological capital of university students and the dimensions of academic engagement and academic burnout. Regression analysis showed that higher levels of psychological capital show higher levels of academic engagement and lower levels of academic burnout, reinforcing the importance of increasing psychological capital in university students to achieve greater success in their studies.
