Introduction: The Atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (aHUS) is defined as the heterogeneous disease associated with the uncontrolled activation of the pathway of complement. This syndrome represents a significant therapeutic challenge and the aim is to achieve a therapeutic regimen that helps to avoid chronic kidney failure and to improve patients’ life.
Aims: Analyzing the nursing care for the different styles of treatment for the aHUS.
Methodology: A descriptive integrating revision was carried out, with a bibliographic research by limiting the search to revisions and clinical cases published in English and Spanish since 2007. The database used were: PubMed, SCOPUS, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, LILACs, Virtual Library at UJI and ProQuest.
Results: The aHUS tend to appear in children under the age of 2, especially after being 6 months old. Complement factor H mutation is the main one in aHUS. Eculizumab is the most popular treatment and it achieves the best results in the restoration of renal function.
Conclusion: The nursing staff have to be able to offer plasmapheresis procedures based on the high-quality evidence and to check the multidisciplinary work of the whole staff. Nurses play a decisive role in caring, managing and supporting transplant patients, as they should adapt and change their daily life routine. [-]
